“Here’s the keys to a podcast”, said the voice on the other end of the phone. So, starting this week we have something new at McGeady Towers as I take the helm of The Hard Yards, the SportsJOE rugby podcast.
Episode one: Week one of the 2017 Six Nations championship with Kevin McLaughlin, Donncha O’Callaghan and rugby reporter Pat McCarry.
We discuss Ireland’s performance in Scotland, how Vern Cotter got one over on his old mate Joe Schmidt at the lineout, and how that trick play could have been prevented. Donncha then shares his love for his Worcester team mate Ben Te’o and his frustration with Italian rugby. Later Hayley O’Connor from Ladbrokes pops by to talk about how those first three results impacted the championship odds, and how they’re now very scared of Stuart Hogg.

I’m utterly obsessed with rugby and love listening to your podcast where everyone else is as big a rugby nerd as I am.I’m an Ulsterman and loved Ep.35 with Stephen Ferris talking about things not being quite right there. Scraping results against the Kings and a depleted Treviso team certainly seems to validate those points.
I’m not a professional pundit or rugby writer, but it is my passion and I have written a piece looking back at Ulster’s journey over the past 10 years to try and give a voice to the frustrations we supporters feel. I was just wondering if it’s something I could forward to either you or Pat McCarry to have a look at? I know you’re Leinster lads but I’d appreciate any feedback you could give me on my writing and any advice about where best to try and upload it so others can read. Thanks for you time.
